Hemp House: Eco-Design Reaches a New High

In an upper-class neighborhood of Asheville, NC, the first Hemp House in the U.S. has been built by Plush Designs, putting a whole new perspective on high class living.  “We heard that we could have a really great neighborhood party if it ever caught on fire,” jokes Karen Korp with CNN in this video about her and husband Russ Martin’s new home.

Maine-Based Company Makes Advancements in Renewable Energy

In the search for green energy sources, the Maine based Ocean Renewable Power Company has announced their new marine Beta Power System. This system is the largest ocean energy power plant ever installed in U.S. waters, and has successfully generated grid-compatible power from tidal currents at its Cobscook Bay site in Eastport Maine.

Already twice the size of Texas, this entangled mess of non-biodegradable petro-trash mirrors the top ten percent most affluent segment of the world’s preference for convenience.

Surfers have been saying for years that the act of surfing is the equivalent to having an intense “religious experience” and that it is one of the most intimate ways a human being can communicate with nature. So it should come as no surprise to hear that more and more surfers are becoming advocates for the planet. In place today, there are organizations like the Surf Rider’s Foundation, which is a non-profit dedicated to the protection and enhancement of the world’s waves and beaches through conservation and activism, as well as various companies run by surfers that carry sustainable surf gear and products. Today, the options for greening the surfing experience are endless, and as more surfers begin to become conscious of the needs of the planet the words “eco” and “surfer” are two words that have naturally become synonymous.

This short film tracks the life cycle of a single-use plastic bag, from the asphalt jungle it came from to the heart of the Pacific Ocean, where it will inevitably end up.
