Los Angeles-based band, Hell & Lula, are not just on a mission to make great music – they want to make a difference. Their strives towards environmentalism are making airwaves on a grassroots level, as the band shows that it’s “thexy” to go green. I interviewed the lead singer, Michael-Alan Kolb, to see where their inspiration comes from and what they have in the works.

An Bountiful Eco Box

It’s hard when you are busy with work, friends and family to always stay up on the latest eco-conscious items. Luckily, Conscious Box has your solution.

Conscious Box is a monthly subscription service focusing on sustainability, environmental stewardship and social responsibility. With a monthly subscription the busy bee can get a wide array of eco-conscious items without searching them out in local health stores. Items include unique pure and natural products, organic food and even vegan beauty products. I got my hands on November’s box and I was so surprised to see the wide array of products that were included. Some of the stand-outs include the packet of Funky Monkey freeze dried fruit. Crunchy, tangy and sweet, Funky Monkey fruit snacks have no sugar added, are vegan, raw and gluten and peanut/tree nut free. 100% Pure body lotion, all natural, with organic and vegan ingredients. The lotion had a great smell and was made with no artificial fragrances, chemicals or preservatives. I like how hydrating the lotion was, and it was great on my sensitive skin. For the kids, and adults who are still kids at heart, there was Honest Tea Kid’s pouch, which is made with USDA certified organic ingredients, with no high fructose corn syrup. The company also has the Honest Kids Drink Pouch Brigade which helps plant trees, donate to charities, and keeps drink pouches out of land fills.

The Return of the Gray Wolf

For 85 years the gray wolf has been absent from the state of California. But now, after a long deficiency, the gray wolf has returned.

According to the California Department of Fish and Game a 2 ½ year old male (they have been tracking), also known as OR-7, has recently made the long journey to California. His impressive trek was over 700 miles from the northeastern corner of Oregon, coming through into the California Siskiyou County on Wednesday. OR-7 is the first confirmed wild wolf in California since 1924. A once-native species, Wolves play a very important role in the California ecosystem, and the return of OR-7 brings a great opportunity for scientist and wildlife enthusiasts to study the new beginnings of wolves in California.

Seattle is Jumping On the Bag Ban Wagon

Seattle, WA may be the next city to ban plastic bags, as a clear and more simplistic ordinance is presented to the community.

The local environmental community is urging the Seattle City Council to consider a ban on plastic bags. Although nothing has been put into effect yet, the council members have been in talks with grocers and retailers to plan a better assimilation of the ban than the failed 2008 city effort to charge 20-cent fees for paper and plastic bags. In the last three years Environmentalists have found stronger evidence that plastic bags clog landfills, effect shorebirds and marine life, and although they may breakdown into smaller pieces over time — they never truly decompose. Along with community members of Seattle, the People of Puget Sound, the Sierra Club and the Surfrider Foundation are also in support of the plastic bag ban.
