The Conversation That my Brother-In-Law’s “Reagan Revolution” T-Shirt Provoked

I don’t see my brother-in-law, Bob too often. We disagree on just about every major thing two people could disagree on. However, we love each other and enjoy one another’s company. So even though Bob likes to provoke (much like his hero Glenn Beck) sometimes it’s best to put political/religious/social differences aside and enjoy being together.

Thirty New Pets Through the Mail

Yesterday I received about 30 new pets through the mail (but shhh, don’t tell my landlord). 30 pets might sound excessive to you but they don’t take up that much space. I keep them in a plastic tub on my balcony and I’ll feed them on scraps once a day in about two weeks. This isn’t animal cruelty, this is the life of a womery owner.

Old jeans + Old Jeans = New Jeans

I thought I would share a little all-consuming activity I did over the holidays. My favourite pair of jeans have always been just slightly too short for comfortable wearing with anything that isn’t an ankle height boot. Luckily for me, the fashion at the moment is slightly too short trousers. However I’ve become increasingly aware that I,  a) I’m not really cool enough to pull off the short jeans look and b) my ankles feel the cold,  rather a lot.

Fracking: The New Interstate Trade

Thanks to the natural gas industry, toxic waste and earthquakes are the next big thing in interstate trade. Ohio has been accepting the wastewater from Pennsylvania’s natural gas wells since July 2011, paying 20 cents or more per gallon. And now that same fracking wastewater is thought to be the cause of a string of earthquakes in Ohio.

Compact Condo

Bigger is not necessarily better. At least when it comes to houses. This year in America the average house size has decreased slightly. Most likely due to the (*sigh*) “Current Economic Climate” and other money issues. But possibly this dent could be attributed to these little homes making a rather big impact.

2011 – Year of the Anti-Environment Congress

Based on a recent study of Congressional votes in 2011, there is no hope at all. 2011 is recorded as the most anti-environment Congressional year to date. And if the last 72 hours are any indication, this bill is sure to solidify this year’s place in history.

Big Coal Shaping Public School Education–Really!

This cartoon was inspired by the Washington Post article, “Energy industry shapes lessons in public schools

Big Coal may be molding our youth with pro-coal propaganda, but worry not, Big Coal also offers a “green” video to teachers called “The Greening of Planet Earth,” which says that “our world is deficient in carbon dioxide, and a doubling of atmospheric CO2 is very beneficial.”

Upcycled Wooden Christmas Tree

This year is my boyfriend and I’s first year in a flat by ourselves and so, in true girly style,  I was excited about our Christmas decorations. Due to space restraints, anything big was definitely out the question. Anything store bought was also off the table.

The Newest Oil Spill: Small Leaks in Russia Lead to Ecological Failure

We’ve all been reminded of the disastrous effects that the oil industry can have on our planet. Not only does it massively contribute to climate change, but spills and leaks can also cause ecological failures, further leading to the demise of our planet. The BP/Exxon-Valdez spill has been counted as one of the worst oil spills to date – but an investigation into Russia’s tundra might make you think otherwise.
